The Copyright and Related Rights Laws that are enforced in many jurisdictions, flowing from the Rome Convention and other associated Conventions and Treaties,  grant Record Producers the exclusive rights to broadcast their recordings and play them to the public (public performance). These rights are embodied in the Copyright Act of Jamaica (1993).

In respect of Performers, their rights are also secured by way of the copyright laws which are in place in territories across the world. Our partners in such territories are able to administer Performers Rights and remit royalties for our members.

Local Rightsholder Mandates

Our authority

Our authority to act on behalf of Record Producers and Performers is predicated on the direct Membership Agreements they enter into with JAMMS for us to administer rights collectively on their behalf, locally and in the international sphere.

International Rightsholder Mandates

JAMMS has a reputable standing within the international community of Collecting Societies and Major International Rightsholders.

We are able to authorize the broadcast and public playing of the international catalog of sound recordings by virtue of the partnerships we have with owners and representatives of international music catalogs.

International Recording Companies

Through our international Affiliate the IFPI (International Federation of the Phonographic Industry), JAMMS has obtained direct mandates from the four (now 3) Major International Recording Companies, which together account for over 75% of the global catalog of international sound recordings.

Reciprocal and Bilateral Agreements

Outside of the sound recording content owned and controlled by ‘Majors’ JAMMS virtually represents the remainder of the international catalog (ie the independents), by way of Agreements with our Collecting Society Partners in various parts of the world.

We cover the catalog of tens of thousands of record labels from the USA, UK and other major music markets by way of our bilateral agreement with those partners, therefore obtaining the right to represent those catalogs in Jamaica also.
