About Us
We were incorporated in 2006 as a non-profit organization, established under the Copyright Act of Jamaica, to administer specific intellectual property rights granted to Record Producers and Performers. We are totally committed to this task.
Our Role as a Collecting Society
Our role is to collectively manage the broadcasting, public performance and new media rights of our members, through our role as a ‘licensing body’/performance rights organization. This involves the granting of licenses to music users, including, radio broadcasters, television broadcasters, webcasters, cable operators, clubs operators, restaurants, gyms, party organizers, event promoters etc. This means, all persons or entities that broadcast or publicly perform sound recordings as part of their activities, require a JAMMS license. In fulfilling our mandate, the revenue collected from licensees is paid over by JAMMS to its members and affiliates, as royalty for the use of their works.
As a performance rights organization/licensing body, JAMMS is the essential link between ‘Music Users’ and ‘Music Owners’. JAMMS enables legitimate access to a worldwide catalogue of sound recordings, thus allowing the growth of a strong copyright compliance culture in Jamaica.
Who do we Represent?
The organization has local membership of over 1500 Producers & Performers, ranging from small independent emerging producers to well-established and highly acclaimed Producers and Record Labels. We also cover aspiring Performers and the full range of established acts.
The Society also holds mandates from the major international recording companies/labels and reciprocal partners covering all the major music markets.
